Questions
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The tool runs entirely in your browser: the PDF is read, changed and saved on your device, and its contents are never sent to our servers.
What is the difference between the two modes?
Exact layout embeds each page as an image and places invisible, selectable text over it, so the page looks like the PDF and can still be searched and copied. Text only keeps each line at its position on the page and leaves out the images.
Can I edit the result?
Yes. It is a single ordinary HTML file with the styles included. Every line is its own element, positioned as in the PDF, so it is a faithful copy rather than a web page that reflows.
Are links and form fields kept?
No. The file contains the page content and its text. Links and form fields of the PDF are not carried over.
The other direction
Generate documents from your data with Dynamic Document API
The API works the other way round: it creates PDFs and images from HTML, Markdown and templates filled with JSON, so text, pictures and data are yours before the file exists. Reading content back out of existing PDFs is what this free tool is for.
